Coping with a life-limiting illness like cancer or an end-stage medical condition is often challenging. Bangalore Baptist Hospital provides wholistic interdisciplinary care to help persons facing such illnesses “add life to days”. Besides having an outpatient clinic and providing palliative care in the inpatient setting, we provide palliative services at home. Multidisciplinary home care teams (consisting of doctors, nurses and counselors) provide planned home visits on weekdays to help patients and their families cope with the illness and its impact. The staff ensures that patient symptoms are managed efficiently, and the family is empowered adequately to keep their loved one comfortable until the end. Currently five multidisciplinary teams are available for home care, one serving the Bangalore urban area (within 20 kms. radius of Bangalore Baptist Hospital) and four serving the villages in Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Nelamangala and Hoskote Taluks in Bangalore Rural district (North). We offer a 24-hour helpline for enrolled patients to provide telephonic advice. Along with Mercy Drops (the non-profit community resource centre in the hospital premises), we assist families to arrange for equipment like wheelchair, commode and walker. The team also offers support during bereavement.
